Thoughts from Linda Rendleman, President and Founder of Women Like Us Foundation.

I just had to take a few moments to share my excitement for women’s work and leadership and to acknowledge the exciting times that are ahead for all of us.

I’m so very proud to be a woman and especially proud to call myself a friend of so many dynamic women in the world. It literally gives me goose bumps when I look around and see where women are today. Intelligent, compassionate, driven, talented, and all joining together in collaboration to use their voices for a better world.

I found this amazing summary and think it’s the perfect time to share it with all of you!

WHERE WOMEN WERE BEFORE THE EARLY 1970S IN THE U.S.

Women couldn’t get birth control if they were unmarried until 1973.

Women couldn’t serve on a jury until 1973.

Women couldn’t get an abortion until 1973.

Women couldn’t sue for sexual harassment until 1977.

Women couldn’t keep their job while pregnant until 1987.

Women couldn’t refuse sex with their spouse until 1993.

Women couldn’t pay a man’s rate for insurance until 2010.

Women still aren’t paid the same as their male counterparts.

FACT: A Record 117 women were elected to political office in 2018

And here’s a nod to my amazing friends…and a nod to all the women out there who are just like them…Standing up. Speaking out. Standing firm. WE CAN DO THIS!

I’ve had the opportunity to meet women like Carla Dirlikov of the Canales Project who is sharing women’s stories through song and is in her second year of finding outstanding women and honoring their work. Women Like Dr. Nancy O’Reilly of Women Connect 4 Good who is a true philanthropist and proponent of women standing up in unity and leadership with her recently book In This Together and women like Gloria Feldt of Take the Lead, Sayydah Garrett of Pastoralist Child and our partner in Kenya where she educates communities to fight Female Genital Mutilation and on and on.

Thank you women everywhere for your outstanding work…including all the organizers of all the women’s marches across our country this weekend!!

Love to all!
