Women across the nation are changing lives of thousands of people in all walks of life. These women have not been deterred by issues plaguing their communities, but rather inspired to  fix them and bring hope back to the people. Women Like Us is dedicated to supporting these revolutionary women in their endeavors and giving aid wherever and whenever possible. One such organization started and led by women is A Better Way. This organization is dedicated to bringing peace to homes, strength to individuals and families, and positively impacting the community through prevention and crisis intervention. A Better Way provides services to protect and heal victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Their trained staff and volunteers offer counseling, manage suicide hotlines, advocate for victims of sexual assault, and run after school programs.

The seed for this noble cause was planted in the year 1977. Three strong women, horrified by the amount of domestic violence afflicting their hometown, started a small support group for victims. Marilyn Ginay, Joanne Lindbald, and Terri Tverdik provided hope in a humble one-room shelter which soon grew to a greater cause. Once A Better Way was officially establish, these women along with their dedicated volunteers and supporters have reached thousands of women, children, and many more over the last three decades.

The impact of A Better Way is vast and every-growing. Over the last three years alone, tens of thousands of crisis calls have been answered and nearly 750 victims of domestic violence and sexual assault have been sheltered and helped. Annualy, their after school program reaches over 300 students and educates them bullying and teen dating violence. With 85% of recipients of A Better Way care agreeing that they feel more emotionally stable after the program, it is clear that the benefits of this organization are immeasurable.

Since A Better Way is constantly growing and handling more and more cases, the major need is financial  at this point. Donations of all amounts are greatly appreciated and go a long way when they are put to helping a struggling woman or child recover. With the addition of programs and the growth of old ones, A Better Way is looking for kind, dedicated volunteers and staff to help move the organization and the community forward.
