Recap of Our Cost Rica 2014 Trip

Once again Women Like Us Foundation had another successful trip to Costa Rica, which was filled with many smiles and learning experiences for all those to travelled with us.

Upon completion of the One Girl at a Time Program, recipients and mentors attend a humanitarian trip where girls experience life changing mentor and workshops as well as fun adventures. They challenge themselves, step out of their comfort zones and learn what they are made of. Women and girls leave this trip with a true sense of what they are capable of, have a sisterhood of support, and believe they can accomplish anything. Below are a few pictures detailing our adventure:



Join Women Like Us in Costa Rica

July 19th – 26th, 2014

$1450.00 plus airfare


I am so excited to tell you about this wonderful life changing trip to Costa Rica. We have travelled there many times and the tranquility of your surroundings paired up with the satisfaction of humanitarian work will make a wonderful impact on your life as well as the lives of those you touch along the way. Join us as we travel with a purpose. At this time this trip is only open to Women Like Us Volunteers and their guests. Four of our One Girl at a Time teens will be accompanying us. There are only spots for a few more people.

You are asked to confirm by April 15th. The trip is 1,450.00 plus your airfare which you can book through our representative to ensure you have transportation to and from the airport and that we are together.

You will need to pay for the ground package of the trip in full by April 30th, unless special arrangements are made. Pricing is based on double occupancy. If you want a single you will need to add $300.00.  Once you have made your deposit your place on the trip is non refundable.

Your Ground Package includes all ground transportation in the travel plan, except airfare. It includes all your meals at Samasati and Breakfast at the Don Carlos and Farewell Dinner at a local restaurant back in San Jose. It also includes the excursions listed below.

This itinerary is a sample itinerary and closer to the date, days may be adjusted based on availability.

Day 1 - Saturday, July 19, 2014 -

Arrive in San Jose, Costa Rica and transfer to the 4-star hotel, Don Carlos, in the city. Get settled in your new surroundings until the Welcome Dinner at 6 p.m. on the hotel's restaurant terrace. This is a non included meal.


Located in the oldest historical section of San José, the 'Four Star' Hotel Don Carlos is a small, but significant part of Costa Rica's rich heritage. Once upon a time residence for two past Presidential families, the historical Hotel Don Carlos' warmth and charm, graciously awaits you. Enjoy Costa Rica's finest art works as you stroll through the gallery-like corridors and maze of quiet garden and fountain settings, restaurant and mini pool. Wander into Annemarie's Boutique and get lost within this unique world of local artistic creations in Costa Rica's #1 gift shop.

- Day 2 - Sunday, July 20, 2014 -

After a complimentary breakfast the group will depart 8:30 a.m. for Samasati Nature Retreat near Puerto Viejo. We will past through the chilly heights of Braulio Carriollo National Park, the steamy lowlands of Guapiles, the Caribbean port town of Limon, many banana plantations and then follow the palm fringed coastal road south by the beach of Cahuita and to Puerto Viejo.

We will arrive in time for lunch. The food at Samasati is vegetarian and each meal is a treat. Enjoy the rest of afternoon relaxing prior to a group get-together at 4:30 p.m with yoga after , followed by dinner in the open air restaurant at 7 p.m. (B/L/D) Today just relax and settle in.

- Day 3 - Monday, July 21, 2014 -

Optional morning Yoga and breakfast

10:00 a.m.Today the group will go to Puerto Viejo to visit the Jaguar Animal Rescue Center . At the Jaguar Animal Rescue Center you will have the opportunity to hold monkeys and see a wide variety of animals up close. Sack lunches will be provided so you can enjoy a picnic on the beach.            

We will be back in time for you to do optional Yoga, and dinner. 


- Day 4 - Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014 -

Optional morning yoga and breakfast.

9:30 a.m  Excursion: Waterfall Trekking with Nature Guide. 3.5 hours

You will be back for Lunch

Afternoon Humanitarian Visit:TBD. Humanitarian work will likely be with local children or at schools.

Back for dinner.


- Day 5 - Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014 -

Optional yoga and breakfast, 

9:30 a.m. Excursion Horseback riding at the beach. Group will be split into two, one morning session and one afternoon session. Well-trained horses and an expert guide will accompany you in this adventurous excursion on the beach. Two hours, plus shop and stroll.

Morning group will be dropped off to horseback ride and after be dropped off at the village to shop and eat lunch. Afternoon group will be dropped off in the village first and horseback ride after.

Will be back to Samasati mid afternoon for free time.


Day 6 - Thursday, July 24th, 2014 -

Humanitarian Visit in the morning. TBD

Lunch at Samasati.

After Lunch we will adventure at the nearby Cahuita National Park.

It is known for white sand, palm tree lined beaches and crystal clear blue waters, which are ideal for swimming. You will also have the opportunity to hike the flat seven kilometers to the point and/or sunbath. It is typically alive with nature, beautiful plants and foliage, and animals like howler monkeys.

Back for dinner

- Day 7 - Friday, July 25th, 2014 -

After morning group reflection meeting in an open air pavilion and a leisurely breakfast, we will transfer mid-morning to San Jose and check-in at the Hotel Don Carlos again. We will spend a night there and visit the open air market for souvenirs and stroll the city a bit before dinner.

 A Farewell Dinner is scheduled at local restaurant where you will be able to enjoy your last evening with your new found friends.

- Day 8 - Saturday, July 25th, 2014 -

After breakfast, transportation will be arranged based on your return flight home. We hope you return home rejuvenated and inspired by all you experienced. (B) 



Samasati Nature Retreat - This stunning retreat is located on a 250 acre biological reserve overlooking the Caribbean. Just over 230 miles south of San Jose, it is an easy and naturally stunning commute from the airport. Sitting amidst the famous Costa Rican rainforest, your bungalow offers some of the most unique views of the Caribbean Sea. The retreat features yoga studios, Jacuzzi, sundeck, cocktail bar, open air restaurant, and massage therapists on staff. Samasati offers an array of activities for nature lovers, yogis, and anyone looking to relax in an exotic environment. Guests will also have access to in-house spa treatments and complimentary coordination of eco-tours and bird watching.
