Vision

SA August 2010Here is the US we take for granted having our lives documented. We live in a world where we can record our every day activities by simply using our phone. For many, they have never had their photo taken; the record of their lifetime only exists in memory.

Although, having your picture taken is not an important need, this chapter was established to provide that gift to those being served by the WLU Chapters and Projects.

By providing this service we acknowledge that we are giving the gift to ourselves by the positive connection that is made between the portrait subject and the photographer. Hopefully the beginning of a bridge between the two societies that these individuals represent is built.

ZambiaPhotography plays an important role in my life:

I am very fortune to have had my family well documented through photography. As a result, I am able to know what my ancestors looked like, how they dressed and get a sense of what their life was like. Part of knowing who I am is knowing who they were.

Many members of my family are amateur photographers. The hobby has been passed down throughout the generations; my great-grandfather to my father, and my father to me.   One of the earliest things I learned about taking pictures is that the true joy of it comes from capturing a moment, then giving that moment to someone in the form of a photo.Masa Mara

The lesson I learned later in life was that no matter where I went in the world, children want their picture taken and not everyone is fortunate to own a picture of themselves.

This project is based on those lessons:

Capture the moment + Give to photo the the subject = happy photographer

The Picture Me Project is not a standalone program, rather an addition to other WLU chapter’s services:

All donations to the Picture Me Project will be used to fund WLU chapters and global programs' photography projects and work with US-based charities to provide photographic services to their clients:
