Hollywood Program

FOR THE GIRLS
Living in sunny Los Angeles with my health, two beautiful bright young boys, and a lovely home with a big back yard sprinkled with palm trees, I make it a point to practice gratitude every day. In a world of greed and in an environment of excess, I try to be mindful that “all that I have is all that I need”; the simplicities of life to me are of the most value.
I had my first son, Austin, exactly ten years ago. The privilege of joining the Mommy Club is my greatest love. My second love has been a colorful career in broadcast television. Five days a week for more than a decade, getting up for work has meant interviewing people (from farmers to the royals), telling stories, and looking through an itty bitty lens when the red light comes on. My work means I get to visit people in their living rooms each day all around the world.
When I was in college uncertain of my future, my mother would always say, “Honey, you’re the next Oprah! You can be anything you want to be if you believe!” A small town girl from Indiana, I had my doubts about how little old me would find my way into the bright lights.
But here I am in Los Angeles, living out my dreams. I’ve climbed the proverbial professional ladder. But the truth is, I’m not changing the world reporting entertainment news. And while I love my job, I want my real work today to be far reaching.
The same mom who was urging me to break into television is the same fearless female who zipped up her backpack and traveled on foot through India by herself. She’s the same woman who said “One day, I will write and publish a book” and DID. She’s the same phenomenal woman who co-created the Women Like Us Foundation not just wanting change for women around the world, but making change.
It has become my greatest honor to be named international spokesperson for the Women Like Us Foundation. I can’t put into words how excited I am to travel to Costa Rica in October and contribute to the foundation’s efforts at the Carbon School. I am equally thrilled to celebrate the creation of the Women Like Us Hollywood Chapter. The ladies here who have stepped up and dedicated their time and energy to get this chapter off the ground are simply outstanding! I am in awe of their selflessness.
We have some incredible plans for the young girls of Castro Middle School here in Los Angeles. They might not have a mom in their ear telling them they can be anything they want to be. They may not realize their potential to blossom into anyone they want to be. All that they have isn’t all that they need. We are going to change that.
Very truly yours,
Catt
