Thanks to your generous donations and corporate sponsors in our community, WLUH was able to take the participants of our mentor program to see The Nutcracker for the holidays! For most of the girls, this was their first time ever experiencing anything of the such! They were so excited to get dressed up and watch the show! Your continued support of our foundation and the mentor program make outings like this possible for children who could not be more deserving!

Upon hearing of our school supply donation at Castro Middle School, Mr. Manuel Mabra, a teacher at Cesar Chaves Elementary School in East L.A., reached out to Women Like Us Hollywood in hopes we could donate supplies to his classroom of students as well. Using supplies left over from the Castro Middle School donation, we were able to outfit his entire classroom of students with supplies! The students wrote thank you letters, and cards for Women Like Us Hollywood. They also read them in front of the class. It was a truly amazing experience for all of us.
Without YOUR help and generous donations, none of this would be possible. We hope when you look at the pictures below you are able to get a sense of the difference you are helping us make in our community.

We were able to donate ONE HUNDRED backpacks filled with school supplies to the students for this upcoming school year. What a success! Our mentoring program is off to an amazing start!

Women Like Us Hollywood would like to thank Cafe Entourage for hosting another one of our successful monthly mixers!
20% of proceeds were generously donated to collecting school supplies for the students of Castro Middle School!
Thank you to everyone who made it out to support such a worthy cause!

Stephanie Shaw: Stephanie lives, works and plays all over California -- but wishes she lived in Disneyland. After attending California State University, Long Beach, she began working on product designs and development. Her art work became a private creative outlet for several years. Thanks to the encouragement of family and friends, Stephanie is now displaying her work publicly. Stephanie loves cats, eating, and sparkly things. Stephanie would like to thank her friends for helping her art get shown at this event!
Yume Ninja: Yume is a chameleon, venturing into various realms of self-expressionism. She is an artist, a model, a lifestyle blogger, diy-er, and a kitty mama. Her belief that beauty and perfection comes from constantly evolving one's skills and self-expression, is a constant theme in her range of artwork. Her form, her art, and presentation is a constantly evolving collection of her own inspirations by video games, the macabre, classical art, fashion, mythology, and anime/manga. ninjasovereign.com
Misha: Misha's art is a fusion of Japanese Anime, Hindu and Buddhist religious imagery and traditional tattoo design. Her favorite subjects to paint are mermaids, pin-ups, geishas, and monsters; preferable a mix of at least two of them at once. She likes the dichotomy of having a monster look cute and sweet. Her paintings and drawings are not based in reality, she creates a world where even monsters are cute and the world is a happy place. Seeing the people not as they are but as cartoon characters. Misha also loves doing pop culture art, using old master paintings and redoing them with one of her big-eyed girls. She has done several variations of the Mona Lisa, The Last supper and Venus Rising From the Waves. Part of the pop culture is also video game art, tributes to the old 8-bit era, an interest that was sparked by a group show she was in at Gallery 1988. Misha has been showing in galleries on a regular basis since 2001; currently she is very involved in the L.A. underground scene. Misha-art.com
Dollybeast: From the Bay to L.A., this tacky rainbow fashionista is ready to immerse the world with "Cute Culture". Dollybeast lives in a happy, colorful, Disney-like bubble. It's not surprising that her drawings are inspired from outer space, unicorns, and all things sparkly. Friends call her 'The Food Mistress' as she is always on a food adventure thanks to a deep love affair with all things delicious and sweet! dollybeast.com
Joel Raul: South Central native, Joel Raul, was influenced at a young age by comic books, graffiti and anything shiny. His stencil style art shows how complex, yet how similar we really are. When he adds his signature gold/metallic touch to his pieces, he shows value in a very simple way. He started his passion by painting anywhere and everywhere. He has never considered himself a street artist, but more of an artist that came from the streets. His work can be seen exhibited by various high fashion companies who sought out his work. After years of perfecting his craft on the computer, he decided to blend a little bit of art with a little bit of fashion and a whole lot of pride for his home state of California. The Asociated Krew is something he created, and along with his core members, he looks to expand and continue to show just how complex, simple, valuable and beautiful we really are. asctd.com
RK: Jaeyong Choi, or RK (Ryongko), was born and raised in South Korea. RK moved to L.A. to study animation 2009. He transferred to the Academy of Art University in the summer of 2010. RK has been a part of three local art shows during the past year and a half. ryongko.tumblr.com
JSalvador: JSalvador is an LA artist inspired by film and pop culture, with a style rooted in his obsession with Japanese anime and kawaii culture. He is working diligently on sharing his view of the world with others with his candy coated doses of reality. jsalvadordesign.com
Seriouy, how much fun was it?! We all had a blast. We'd like to sincerely thank 100 Monkeys for being so amazing! It was a great way to spread the word about the awesome things our organization is doing!
And, again... THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!
